As our troops returned from Afghanistan in August
Regret not victory led our thoughts.
From the first day of our bombing campaign in Afghanistan
Remorse not revenge settled into our bellies.
On this day Kingsolver read the story of the child and the bear.
While a place in many of us, may have been able to know retaliation.
Where is humanity?
In the story of the bear of Lorena Province.
Kingsolver reminds us we need new bear stories.
And to plant seeds as an act of faith.
